**Extraordinary, MAGICAL Victorian Villa** Astonishing throughout! Lavish reception rooms, incredible PANORAMIC VIEWS, 7 double bedrooms, extensive cellars, gorgeous terrace, substantial parking. Call now to view. Offers in excess.
The Sycamores is a lavish Victorian Villa and a key part of Northwich’s industrial past. Standing proudly above the world beyond, the view has changed beyond recognition in the 130 years since the final brick was laid. Built in 1890 for the highest echelon of the ‘Brunner Mond’ hierarchy, it once looked out over the vast works for which the occupant was responsible. Now, the landscape is much more welcome on the eye with the rooftops of the recently constructed Winnington Village giving way to woodland and fields beyond.
It isn’t just the outlook that has changed during over the years, the house itself was extended in the early 1900s nearly doubling in size. Eventually, as the works declined the house became privately owned and converted into no less than 22 bedsits, eventually falling into disrepair. It was at this point some 35 years ago, our vendors seized the opportunity to bring this remarkable property back to life. A labour of love, every detail has been meticulously restored, keeping as many of the beautiful features as possible. So enormous was the house, it was run as a Bed and Breakfast for many years until retirement beckoned and it was decided to return the house to the original 1890 property by separating the latter extension into its own dwelling. The home known now as ‘The Sycamores’ still affords some square footage in excess of a huge 4300 including the cellar, and what a home it is.
Magical, inspiring, majestic, extraordinary; any of these superlatives are entirely appropriate. Just a flick through the photographs and it is obvious this is a very grand property indeed. What isn’t so obvious, and why if your interest has been peaked you simply must arrange to view, is quite how lovely and livable it is as a home. It is suitable indulgent in all the right places while being equally balanced with every day modesty. It’s a heck of a trick to pull off. Impressive yet approachable, decadent yet unintimidating, spacious yet intimate it is a home for every occasion and every season. It is also a house that doesn’t take itself too seriously. There are elements of whimsy and fun, one can imagine the fabulous parties that can and almost certainly have taken place here. The drawing and dining rooms in particular are of a scale and style only normally found in stately homes and even the sitting room is superbly spacious by today’s standards. The kitchen is an altogether more relaxed affair with plentiful in frame cabinetry and what seems like acres of granite worktop finished off with a proper range cooker perfect for rustling up a feast for the family. Practicality hasn’t been ignored beside all the glamour, the utility room plays home to all the unsightly white goods and there is of course the essential downstairs toilet currently fitted with a vintage jukebox – some way to pass the time when nature calls!
Upstairs there are no less than seven bedrooms, each and every one a double and beyond, each with their own unique features and frankly any could feasibly be the master depending on your priorities. The top floor which accommodates three of these bedrooms is ideal for hiding away teenagers or relatives when they come to stay. With the most tremendous panoramic views from up there, getting rid of them will surely be the problem! Currently, there is a modern, tasteful bathroom, separate shower room and separate W.C. serving the house, though there are plenty of options to add extra en-suites or similar if so desired.
Underneath the house are the most extensive basements we have seen for a very long time. Comprising of six chambers, these are ripe for conversion especially with direct access to the outside as well as down from the kitchen.
Outside, the approach is an event in itself as you enter through large gates in the shadow of the house towering above. It is an exciting and memorable way to arrive. There are lawns to the side of the lower driveway ready for play while the ivy clad terrace is the ultimate in sophistication for a glorious garden party. To the back of the property, there is considerable extra parking accessed from Hemming Street.
The Sycamores is a one off. A maverick of a home of which there is no equal. Decadent, dramatic, even daring. It challenges the ordinary and you, the future owner, to live a life extraordinary, beyond what you thought was possible. This is a home with a personality, a soul, a heartbeat ready to inspire, invigorate and enchant with its intoxicating splendor and you are cordially invited be a part of its legacy.
